US contractor says he fights off attack in Kabul

Armed with an AK-47, an American contract worker said Wednesday he held off militants attacking a guest house in Kabul, allowing about two dozen U.N. election workers to escape.

John Turner, a trucker from Kansas City, Mo., described opening fire at the assailants as the guests he was protecting huddled in a laundry room at the back of the building.

“I am armed. I carry an AK-47 and I kept firing it to keep the attackers away from the group I was guarding,” he said. He was shooting from the entrance of the laundry room. The group later jumped over a back wall to take refuge in a house behind the guest house, he said.

Lawyer: Client charged with murder of UConn player

A man was arrested and charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of a University of Connecticut football player but was just trying to break up a fight at a school-sanctioned dance, his attorney said Tuesday.

John William Lomax, of Bloomfield, was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with stabbing 20-year-old Jasper Howard, attorney Deron Freeman said. His bond was set at $2 million, Freeman said.

State police have scheduled an early afternoon news conference to announce what they call “significant developments” in the investigation.

UGG Classic Short Back to UGG

Emily Blunt (of The Devil Wears Prada and Sunshine Cleaning fame) was spotted recently on her way to work on her new project “The Adjustment Bureau” (due out in 2010). Ms. Blunt was donning quite the layered look I must say, as she was wearing a black hoodie, over a black dress, over gray yoga pants, and her feet were clad in the UGG Classic Short in Gray. This is not typically a look that I would be particularly excited about but the petite actress looked casual, comfy, and ready to work!
