West Ham and Millwall have both been charged by the Football Association following the crowd trouble that disrupted their Carling Cup tie at Upton Park on August 25.
The FA have charged both clubs for failing to control fans from violent, threatening, provocative and racist behavior and for throwing harmful or dangerous objects onto the pitch.
English Premier League side West Ham face a further charge of failure to ensure their supporters do not enter the field of play.
“The FA has liaised closely with all relevant authorities including the Metropolitan police during the course of its investigations and has been in constant dialogue with both clubs during this time.” said a statement on the FA’s Web site
The governing body has also said that fans of both clubs who are identified as the troublemakers will face lifetime bans. Footage from 47 CCTV cameras inside the ground is also being examined as the police continue with their investigation.
A Millwall fan was stabbed as fans clashed outside West Ham’s Upton Park stadium and pitch invasions by the Hammers fans followed their side’s goals in extra time of the match against the League One side.
