10 Best Ways to Shade a Picture

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Lighting can be a very tricky trick to master. The shadows can be very tough to depict correctly. Cartoonists do not always draw the shadows super realistically but instead draw shapes that are meant to symbolize the shadows. These sharp shapes can be really neat looking. Other artists try to capture the light more realistically using airbrushing, stippling, cross-hatching or various other shading techniques. Whatever technique you choose to use, many of the principals of lighting are the same. For instance, no matter what you are shading, you will need to determine where your light source is.

Lighting plays a large role in indicating form and making an image appear more 3D. In order to really understand light sources, you will need to look at objects in a variety of lightings and keep the logic behind the lighting consistent. The light sources are the points from which light comes, such as the sun or the lights in the room. Only by doing this will the lighting trick the eyes into seeing the entire image as realistic. Be sure to look at how different shapes such as cubes, spheres, pyramids, cylinders and cones and also look at the shapes in all sorts of lightings and times of the day.

If you have a pencil in hand, there are a couple of ways that you can shade.

1. Scribbling

The most intuitive way to shade is to scribble by swirling your pencil, spending more time swirling in areas that are supposed to be more shaded. However, this is not the only way.

2. Stipple

You can also use the stipple method, which involves placing a large series of dots closer together or farther apart.

3. Crosshatch

You can also use the crosshatching method where you make several X marks, pressing more lightly as you move towards the more well lit parts.

4. Hatching

Finally, you can use vertical lines, with some lines thicker and closer together while other lines are more spread apart. Any of these methods can be very useful when shading a colored image. With color, you can also add highlights by adding white to a particular part of the image. But do not use pure white. Make sure that the color in the image mixes in with the white.

5. Airbrush
If you are using a graphics program, you can use the airbrush tool to lay down pixels in an unsystematic way.

6. Blur

You can also shade by throwing lumps of color into the picture and then using the blur tool to blend the colors together.

7. Smudge

Or you can use the smudge tool to rub different colors together. Use whatever methods you prefer.

8. Cell Style

For cell-style shading, you will need to create different shapes in order to indicate different shadows. If you have a steady hand, you can draw these shapes. Or you can use the pen tool found in some graphics programs. Then all you need to do is find a shade that is darker than the shade that you are placing shadows over.

9. Line Width

Change the width of the lines, using thinner lines on the parts of the character that have light cast upon them while using darker lines where the shadows hit.

10. Screentones

The final method is to use screentones. Screentones are conventionally used for black and white comics. The best way to get screentones is to make them yourself using filters or to buy a screentones program.

Abbott pushing for Garrett’s sacking

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Opposition leader Tony Abbott has accused Prime Minister Kevin Rudd of trying to get off “scot-free” from the botched insulation scheme.

Mr Abbott said Mr Rudd is no policy wonk, as the Prime Minister has claimed.

“What kind of a policy wonk would put a policy in place that leads to four deaths, 93 house fires, 1000 deadly electrified roofs and 48,000 houses in fear that they might be one of those 1000 deadly electrified roofs?” Mr Abbott told reporters in Sydney on Saturday.

“And what kind of policy wonk would put in place a home insulation program where of up to one million insulated homes, 240,000 of them were bodgy jobs?”

Earlier on Saturday, Mr Rudd told reporters in Adelaide that he is “a first class policy wonk,” while admitting he has disappointed people with his achievements so far.

Mr Abbott said the public are now questioning the competence of this government and Mr Rudd.

“He’s come out to say to the public, look please forgive me. But why should we forgive him when he’s not really sorry?” Mr Abbott asked.

“Because if he was really sorry, he would have sacked Garrett.

“If he was really sorry he wouldn’t be desperately trying to get off scot-free after one of the most appalling administrative disasters in Australian recent history.”

The demotion of Mr Garrett was driven by “political panic,” Mr Abbott added.

“We’ve got a minister in Peter Garrett who might as well go off whale-watching because he doesn’t appear to have a real job and yet he’s still sitting in the cabinet and he’s still drawing a cabinet minister’s salary.”

Yahoo Moves To The Music

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

By WebProNews Staff 0 Yahoo’s Music Unlimited gained a new manager – rival subscription service Rhapsody, which is operated by RealNetworks. The company also purchased media toolbar FoxyTunes.

Yahoo doesn’t have much luck with music. Way back before the first dot-com bubble shattered, Yahoo made a billionaire out of Mark Cuban by purchasing Broadcast.com from him. That was $5.7 billion Yahoo could have spent building a music service.

Now they have outsourced management of Yahoo Music Unlimited to Rhapsody. Yahoo Music general manager Ian Rogers suggested on Yodel Anecdotal that Yahoo Music Unlimited wasn’t such a great deal for the company:

Relatively speaking, a small percentage of those use Yahoo! Music Unlimited, yet an large portion of our resources were being poured into this service. It was clear to us that we needed to make a major strategic shift.

It wasn’t an easy decision.

If it cost more than it made, and wasn’t proving itself as a loss leader to more lucrative services, we think that decision may have been a little easier than expressed. No one loses on-demand music, they just gain a new brand for that service.

“I’m sure a question many people are going to ask is if this means Yahoo! is backing away from online music. Au contraire,” Rogers said in introduction to his other bit of news. Yahoo acquired FoxyTunes, a media toolbar for IE and Firefox.

“You’ll see support for additional media players, integration with many additional music sites and services,” FoxyTunes said on their site in discussing what the acquisition means to them.

what we think about Weight Loss in astrology?

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

We are what we think. This is a famous saying. This is the essence behind the concept of weight loss through the software advertised in the website store.unexplainable.net. This website is a repository of different kinds of software that are used to enhance the brain power. Though there are pills for any kind of ailment, they do not provide permanent relief. However this software gives permanent relief from any kind of ailment, at reasonable prices and without any side effects.
Weight loss is the happening word today. Almost everybody thinks that they are overweight and take desperate efforts to slim down. They maintain very strict diet and mostly, they almost eat nothing at all, resulting to under nourishment. Having a healthy body is very important for one’s own confidence levels. Many dieticians and doctors around the world recommend specific foods and recommend tablets to bring about weight loss. The fact is that, these do bring about weight loss without doubt, but they are not long standing. After a few weeks or months, the weight tends to appear on one’s body. This is the biggest disadvantage of all the medicines and the diet programs that are available in the market today.
However the software available in this website is only about positive recordings. It has a lot of positive recordings that emphasize that nobody is overweight. The term weight itself is a negative term. The priority is to have a healthy body. One should stop worrying that he is overweight, or does not have the correct physique for his age. These negative energies aggravate weight gain. No matter how strict the food or diet is, no matter how many tablets one takes, weight loss never happens because of the negative energies in the mind.
The brain is the controller of the human body. When there are so many negative forces in the brain, how can one expect to lose weight? Thoughts are more effective than tablets. Everybody should agree to this. One can download this software at a reasonable price and listen to the positive recordings that clear the myth of weight loss. This gives an insight into what weight means and how one should control it. It may appear pschycological to few people, however the fact is that, after listening to these recordings, one is bound to feel good about his physical appearance. The world always weighs us on our confidence levels.
This program is sure to give enough confidence levels to project a positive picture to the world. It is not the weight, but the attitude that matters. As long as one has a healthy body, one should not bother about his weight. Continuously listening to these recordings sends positive signals to the brain and automatically controls the food that we intake. Weight loss happens naturally without any external medication. This is the best way to lose weight. In addition to that, one begins to feel so good and confident about oneself. This satisfaction is never achieved even at times of strict diet control or weight loss medications.

More recession talk!

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Have I mentioned before that I’m sick of people moaning about our economy and wailing that we’re on the verge of a recession? I have? Oh that’s right. I have. Well here I go again. Last night Alan Greenspan, the former Federal Reserve Chairman, spent his evening complaining about our economy too. He says we’re on the “edge” of a recession. I have an idea… instead of lamenting about the economy, how about being productive.

I know that the media is having a field day trumpeting the horrible state of our economy. It makes for nice emotional stories that draw in readers and viewers. The problem is that it doesn’t help anyone, really. Those who were always conservative with their money will continue to be so. Those who have been big spenders and bad savers aren’t likely to change their modus operandi even with the news reports on recession. So why are we belaboring the point.

Ben Bernanke, the current Federal Reserve Chairman is saying that there will likely be slow growth our economy for 2008. Slow growth is better than no growth or a recession, so let’s run with that. Let’s talk about how we’re going to support American businesses and buy American-made goods, and overall help keep our economy humming, okay?

Types of carbon water filters

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Relying on specialists in water related problems and resorting to them to identify the type of problem you confront with is the best thing to do before buying a water filter. A professional lab will tell you within a short period of time the nature of the problem and whether you need to purchase carbon water filters, an iron water filter or others. There is no point in spending a significant amount of money without consulting a professional first, because there’s a big chance you’ll regret your decision.

Water equipment is necessary but this doesn’t mean that you have to pay a lot of money on a water system. Before you decide to purchase any equipment, we suggest testing your water and making sure that the system you opt for will treat your problem adequately. As long as you consult with water quality professionals and equipment suppliers, you will be able to identify with their help the best system that meets your individual needs. Once you have identified the type and the level of contaminants, you will be able to choose the water system you need.

All carbon water filters remove organic compounds and the effectiveness of such filters depends on the amount of carbon in the unit and how long the water remains there. If the water remains in contact with the filter medium for a longer period of time the more impurities are removed. However, we suggest replacing carbon filters cartridges when the problems of taste and odor reappear. The cartridges of carbon water filters can range from a few dollars to several hundreds and there are units that require professional installation. The most popular types of carbon filters, based on their location in the plumbing system, are: faucet mount, in-line, line bypass and point of entry.

The first category of carbon water filters is usually cheaper and it is attached to the faucet where the drinking water comes out, containing a small amount of carbon. The in-line filters are installed behind the kitchen sink, treating only cold water running from the tap, while warm, and hot water will remain untreated. The line bypass filters are also attached to the cold water supply line and the carbon water filters last longer because it treats only the water that is being used. The last category of filters treat all the water that enters the home and it is great for the treatment of volatile organic compounds that evaporate into the air. These are the most efficient filters but also the most expensive ones as far as cost and maintenance are concerned.

Another frequent problem is the contamination of water with iron; besides causing an unpleasant metallic taste, the iron also causes staining of fixtures and laundry. Unfortunately, an iron water filter can be quite expensive, requiring significant monitoring and maintenance but if you do a little research you just might find something cost-effective. Some advantages of the iron water filter are: the cost of competitive iron treatment systems, easy to replace cartridge, no backwashing required and not adding harmful products to the drinking water.

Furthermore, the iron water filter prevents the staining of laundry and plumbing system, the life of the filter is relatively long, the installation is simple and it doesn’t take a lot of time and its size is quite small so it doesn’t require a lot of storage. As you can see, each water filter is meant to treat a certain problem, so it is up to specialist to decide what type of filter you need.

Buyers Beware: Repainted Cars Suffer Diminished Value on Resale or Trade-In

Automobileexam.com serves consumers all over the United States and their Paint Gauges, whether purchased or rented, are delivered on an overnight basis free of charge to the consumer. Because almost all car shopping is first done online with a follow up visit to the dealership, consumers could rent a Paint Gauge at an affordable price, get it in the mail the next day and immediately use it to evaluate the cars they shop for in today’s fast paced market.

Peter, a 36 year old man from Coram, New York, discovered that a used Honda Accord he purchased was involved in a front end collision which was not disclosed on a Carfax® Vehicle History Report. He learned of the front end repair when he offered the car to a dealer as a trade-in and was told that their offer to purchase was about $3,000 less than it would have been because the front end of the car was repainted. In a meeting with Peter, he stated “I didn’t understand what the difference was, the car had a clean Carfax and I never had an accident with it. The dealer tested the paint on the car and told me the car was repainted in the front. Their offer to me was a lot less than I expected.”

Peter’s experience is unfortunately common. Accidents, collisions, damage and other causes for car repainting often times are not reported to police, insurance companies and other information sources supplying Vehicle History Reports. AutomobileExam.com now offers Paint Thickness Gauges for sale and rent to consumers for use when shopping for used cars to examine a car’s paint and determine whether the car is repainted or was involved in a collision not disclosed in Vehicle History Reports. “Until now, our product has been only used by car dealers and others in the automotive industry whose business depends on knowing the absolute truth about the condition of a vehicle when purchasing at auction or as trade-ins. Auto dealers understand that cars are repainted all the time and in the wholesale market, a car with repainted panels is worth a lot less. They depend on Paint Gauges to make proper business decisions and to pay market prices for cars. Dealers will pay a lot less for a repainted car, but may put it up for sale on their lot for the same price as a perfect car. It only follows that consumers should be able to test and know the true condition of the car’s paint to help negotiate a fair price” said Louis White, vice president of sales for AutomobileExam.com.
